"新鮮な魚を世界の食卓へ!"

"Make fresh Japanese fish
available at home!"

Bringing fresh Japanese seafood to tables around the world

Mie Gyoren processes seafood from Mie, Kagoshima, Kyushu, and other parts of Japan at the Miura Live Fish Distribution Center in Kanagawa, and ships it within Japan and exports it worldwide. To deliver fresh seafood to tables around the world at a more reasonable price, Mie Gyoren is developing a system to sell directly to consumers living overseas. We would be grateful if you would use this service to enrich your daily meals with Japanese fish and help spread the word to other consumers.

Three New Initiatives to Deliver Fresh and Affordable Seafood Directly from the Source

1. Direct sales from Mie Fishery Cooperative to consumers

Japanese seafood sold overseas is often expensive and not something that can be enjoyed daily. We are working to create a system that delivers directly from producers, utilizing e-commerce, to provide it at a lower cost. We also hope that this will lead to a more sustainable production base by directly returning profits to the producers.

It's not just about "cheapness," but about being able to safely enjoy fish that producers have carefully raised, caught, and rigorously quality-controlled, at a fair price. This is the new distribution system we are building.

For consumers, a major advantage of direct delivery is that, in addition to the price, it offers the "peace of mind of knowing the producer's face." You can enjoy seafood imbued with the producers' dedication and passion, in the best condition in terms of freshness and quality, and at an affordable price.

2. Utilizing freezing technology to maintain a higher degree of freshness than refrigeration.

Mie Gyoren has established a comprehensive freshness management system from catch to shipment. Fish from various parts of Western Japan are transported to live fish pens in Miura via live fish vessels and tanks, and kept alive until just before shipment. After landing, the fish are promptly processed and vacuum-packed in HACCP-compliant low-temperature facilities, then undergo quality inspection and are delivered to Singapore via the shortest route. We use the K-value as an indicator of freshness, which represents the rate at which ATP (a precursor to umami components) in the fish's body breaks down over time. Generally, a K-value exceeding 20 indicates that heating is required. Mie Gyoren utilizes advanced freezing technology, which has been confirmed to result in a significantly smaller increase in K-value after 7 days compared to chilled products, thus maintaining freshness. It has been demonstrated that consistent temperature control through freezing maintains higher freshness throughout the entire logistics period than chilled air-freighted fresh fish. By combining immediate processing and high-precision freezing technology, our products can be enjoyed in Singapore with freshness comparable to, or even exceeding, air-imported seafood.

3. Reduced transportation costs through the use of containers

Another initiative is the effort to transform logistics methods. Historically, seafood has been transported and stored in small lots via air, resulting in high transportation costs. This time, the Mie Prefectural Federation of Fisheries Cooperatives is attempting to drastically reduce logistics costs by utilizing frozen containers for large-lot transport, as the aforementioned freezing technology allows for longer storage. Through this transformation of the logistics system, we are committed to delivering fresh seafood to your tables at a lower price.
